The warm weather this weekend turned my thoughts to springtime. It’s too early for spring flowers here in northern Minnesota so it was fun to see that someone decorated their fence with plastic flowers.
Red squirrels plan ahead for the cold winter days. They grow thick fur coats and they cache food.
Red squirrels do not hibernate. In the winter, I see them running in the trees. Only on the coldest days do they stay inside their dens.
Red squirrels are small and feisty. I once saw a red squirrel chase away a much larger grey squirrel.
Hawks, owls and fox, predators of the red squirrel, live in my neighborhood. I am sure they have caught some red squirrels.
Regardless of the weather or predators, I continue to see and enjoy red squirrels.
If I owned this luxury treehouse, I would sit inside and watch the birds, read books, daydream, eat lunch and take a nap. What would you do?
